August 2024 – Methodist Medical Center has received numerous American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® and Mission: Lifeline® achievement awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke. This ultimately leads to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.
Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. has a heart attack or stroke, and heart disease and stroke are the number one and five causes of death in the country, respectively. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
Get With The Guidelines and Mission: Lifeline put the expertise of the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association to work for hospitals nationwide, helping ensure patient care is aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines. As a participant in Mission: Lifeline and Get With The Guidelines programs, Methodist qualified for the awards by demonstrating how their organization has committed to improving quality care.
“These awards validate the hard work and dedication of the staff who care for some of our most seriously ill patients and their families,” said Jeremy Biggs, president and chief administrative officer of Methodist Medical Center. “The implementation of these guidelines requires successful coordination of our cardiovascular, critical care and emergency teams, and is a crucial step in saving the lives and improving outcomes of stroke and heart attack patients.”
“These awards are a reflection of the excellence that our health system and Methodist Medical Center demonstrate in putting patients first,” said Milan Sheth, DO, interventional cardiologist and medical director of cardiac services at Methodist Medical Center. “These achievements can only be accomplished through the combined efforts of all our staff to provide state-of-the-art medical care in East Tennessee. We are proud to say that Methodist is a leader in delivering outstanding care for our patients.”
This year, Methodist Medical Center received these achievement awards:
- Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Center – Gold Plus with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™
- Get With The Guidelines® – Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI – Gold with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™
- Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll™
“These awards show Methodist Medical Center’s commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, chair of the American Heart Association Quality Oversight Committee and chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern Medicine. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Methodist can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates – a win for health care systems, families and communities.”
