At Knoxville Infectious Disease Consultants, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of acute (sudden) and chronic (present for a long time) diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, and fungi. At Knoxville Infectious Disease Consultants, our physicians use their expertise in medicine, pharmacology and epidemiology to diagnose and treat individual patients with acute or chronic illnesses or infections caused by:

KIDC offers clinical services and laboratory tests that help our experienced specialists diagnose a variety of infectious diseases and conditions, and develop comprehensive treatment plans for our patients.

Services

If you are referred to one of our infectious disease specialists, you can expect them to conduct a physical exam and discuss your medical history. They’ll ask you questions about your symptoms, medications, and your environment.

You will likely need testing to help diagnose your condition and determine the appropriate treatment. You may need:

  • Blood tests
  • Imaging tests such as X-Ray, MRI, or CT scans
  • Spinal tap (lumbar puncture)
  • Stool sample tests
  • Throat swabs
  • Tissue biopsies
  • Urine tests
  • IV Services (Infusion Center) for specific conditions (subject to insurance approval)

We ask that you please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment. Please bring the following items with you to your visit:

  • Your current health insurance information 

  • Your current Photo ID

  • Any medications you are currently taking in their original containers or in a list with dosages and times

Please note: In order to provide efficient care for all of our patients, you may be asked to reschedule your appointment if you do not arrive at least 30 minutes early.

Prescription Refills

It’s very important that you request your prescription refills during normal business hours before 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Prescriptions will not be refilled on weekends or holidays.

Referrals & Precertification

Referrals

Insurers often require a physician referral prior to your visit to Knoxville Infectious Disease Consultants. Patients who feel they would benefit from outpatient infectious disease consultation must request a referral from their PCP or other provider directly involved in the management of the condition of concern. A KIDC physician will review your records to determine if outpatient evaluation is needed.

Precertification

If a test or procedure is ordered by a Knoxville Infectious Disease Consultants provider, our staff will obtain a necessary precertification on your behalf. Precertification for any tests or procedures ordered by your own primary care physician is the responsibility of your primary care provider’s office.
