August 2024 – Fort Loudoun Medical Center has earned a 5-star Overall Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It is one of five hospitals in the state to earn a 5-star rating, and the second consecutive year the hospital has received this rating.
The CMS uses publicly reported data to determine the Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating on a scale of one to five annually. To do so, the organization looks at 46 hospital quality measures that are broken into five areas: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care.
Scores are calculated by taking the weighted average of the scores of each category. The mortality, safety of care, readmission and patient experience categories are each weighted at 22 percent; timely and effective care is weighted at 12 percent.
“We are humbled to learn of our inclusion in this elite group of hospitals whose care meets or exceeds national benchmarks,” said Connie Martin, president and chief administrative officer of Fort Loudoun Medical Center. “This does not happen without extraordinary teamwork between our staff and physicians, who demonstrate daily their commitment to providing outstanding and compassionate care in this community.”
Roane Medical Center, a sister facility of Fort Loudoun, also received a 5-star rating.
