This award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award was established in 1999 by the family of a patient who had received extraordinary care and compassion from his nurses during his final days.

Congratulations to Martha, a nurse case manager on 2 Dogwood for being recognized with the DAISY award. Martha was nominated for the kindness and professionalism to showed towards her patient and her patient’s wife. Read her nomination below:

Martha’s Nomination

“My husband has advanced early onset Alzheimer’s. He was on Dogwood twice — once before he went to the Senior Behavioral Unit, and then again in hospice after SBU. We were lucky enough to have Martha as his case manager during both stays. During her visits she was well-informed which meant we didn’t have to repeat info I had already shared. She was fully understanding about my concerns about my husband going to SBU, where he would be alone for most of the day, and I couldn’t be there the advocate for him.

When my husband returned to Dogwood for hospice she gave me a big hug, expressed her sympathies and said to let her know if there was any way she could help. And I knew she was 100% sincere. I understand she is retiring soon. Those are some big shoes for someone to fill!”
