New Clinic at Morristown Landing Offers Physical Therapy and D1 Sports Coaching for Young Athletes

Morristown, Tenn. – June 2024 – A ribbon-cutting event for the new Covenant Health Therapy Center – Morristown location was held on Tuesday, June 11, at Morristown Landing, a multi-purpose recreation center that offers community activities in wellness, sports, and health education. Covenant Health Therapy Centers and Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System (a member of Covenant Health) have partnered with D1 Training to increase access to healthcare for Morristown residents and further fulfill Covenant Health’s mission of improving the community through better health.

More than 75 community leaders and fitness center members were present for the ribbon cutting, including members of the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce. Attendees at the event had the opportunity to tour the therapy center and hear remarks from Covenant Health leaders, physical therapist Dawn Williams, DPT, and Devin Driscoll, owner of D1 Training. In addition to physical therapy, the center will provide services from a strength coach as part of a health partnership with D1 to offer speed, agility, strength and performance training to Morristown-area student athletes ages 7 – 21.

Physical Therapy Services

The new Therapy Center will open on June 24 and will help patients recovering from surgery or injury, with a “return-to-play” focus. The physical therapist will assist people who need surgical and non-surgical orthopedic services (neck, shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, hip, knee, ankle and lumbar diagnosis) and will offer specialty services including lymphedema therapy.

The Therapy Center is a resource for people returning to their normal activities following surgery or injury as well as helping people with acute or chronic pain issues.

Williams said, “I am extremely honored and excited to begin this new endeavor with Covenant Health. We will provide much-needed services and support for local residents, including hospital employees. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve this community.”

She added, “We make sure therapy we are providing is appropriate for that specific individual. Some patients seek PT because of work injuries, car accidents or sports injuries that bring high anxiety and sometimes emotional distress. Our goal is to achieve a successful outcome for each patient by listening, being supportive and providing guidance during recovery.”

Sports Performance Coaching Services

D1 strength coaches bring years of expertise in sports performance training. “We are excited for this partnership to expand to Morristown,” said Driscoll.

“We have seen student athletes travel across county lines to train at our Hardin Valley facility in Knoxville, so we’re excited to bring these services to the Morristown area and help young athletes take their sports performance to the next level. Our D1 coaches offer performance-based speed and agility training, strength and conditioning, team training and skill-based training. We will offer team training and classes for young people, with hopes to help them increase their performance in their area or sport of choice.”

D1 coaching services will operate independently of the Morristown Landing Fitness Center.

Gordon Lintz, president and chief administrative officer of Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System said, “We look forward to providing a wide variety of physical therapy services through adding an outpatient Covenant Health Therapy Center in Morristown. We are also pleased to partner with D1 to enhance athletic training services available to our community.”
