Congratulations to Robert Washington, a catering associate with Dietary Services, for being presented with his second BEE Award. The BEE Award is short for Being Exceptional Every day which is aimed at celebrating our ancillary caregivers.

Robert truly is a light in people’s lives and wherever he goes he looks for opportunities to make genuine connections.  His team members from his catering home of 3-West/Cardiology were on hand to recognize those connections as Robert was celebrated with a BEE Award:

“I’m here to make people feel better and to make my patients my friends.”  That’s the mindset of Robert Washington when he steps onto the 3-West cardiac floor.  As an employee with 35 years of service, his face is familiar but it’s his servant heart that people remember.

There is never a shift or patient that does not get Robert’s total commitment and love. He has been in this position for 14 years now, and not a week goes by without hearing someone compliment him. Just this year alone, he has been recognized by name in our patient comments more than eleven times with remarks such as:

  • “Robert was AMAZING! Great people skills.”
  • “Robert was exceptionally pleasant and always smiling.”
  • “Robert made me feel like family.”
  • “Robert was a blessing to talk with.”
  • “Robert knew his job very well and always treated me with respect.”
  • “Robert brought me a much-needed smile.”
  • “Robert was the Best Part of My Stay!”

These are just a few of the many compliments we hear in our patient comment reports, through cards of thanks and word-of-mouth from his co-workers on 3-West who all think the world of him.  This job is more than just serving meals, it’s a ministry.  It’s an opportunity to spend time with those who may be scared or alone, to offer a reassuring word and when asked, share a prayer of comfort and recovery.

We are so thankful to have Robert as a member of our MMC family and can think of no better example for the award as a BEE honoree!

Robert’s Washington’s teammates from 3-West and leaders across the hospital were on hand for his presentation.

Methodist Medical Center implemented The BEE (Being Exceptional Every day) Award to recognize employees who aren’t RNs and LPNs (they can be nominated for The DAISY Award). A DAISY can’t survive without a BEE and a BEE can’t survive without a DAISY!

Please say thank you by sharing your story of how our employee made a difference you will never forget!
