Parkwest Employees Recognized for Excellence with The BEE Award

The BEE Award, which stands for “Being Exceptional Every Day,” was created at Parkwest Medical Center as a companion award to The DAISY Award, an international recognition program for registered and licensed practical nurses. The name was selected because a DAISY can’t survive without a BEE, and a BEE can’t survive without a DAISY.  Any employee who is not a nurse or LPN can be nominated for The BEE Award.

In the second half of 2019 Parkwest recognized three outstanding employees with The BEE
Award: Charlotte Brown, Jerry Hornback and Laci Crass. We’re so thankful for these employees and their commitment to putting their patients first each and every day!

Charlotte Brown

Charlotte Brown is a certified nursing assistant (CNA) on the cardiopulmonary unit. She was nominated by a patient’s family for the great care she provided. According to the patient’s wife, “Charlotte has been an incredible caregiver to my husband during his time here in the hospital. She has gone above and beyond the call of duty to see to not only his care and comfort, but to my needs as well. She seems to be able to anticipate what we might want or need before we even know it ourselves.

“She has done all of this with the most cheerful attitude and spirit of caring that made us
wish to have her as our caregiver every day that we had to stay, although we knew she needed and deserved her days off.

“Charlotte has chosen the perfect career for the kind of person she is and we feel truly blessed
to have been under her superb care. She made this not-so-pleasant situation a rather nice experience by meeting such a sweet spirited, lovely person.”

Jerry Hornback

Jerry is a CNA on the orthopedics and spine unit. He was nominated by a patient’s family for the outstanding care he provided. In his nomination, the patient’s daughter wrote, “My mother is a retired RN and I am an RN. Jerry was very attentive to my mother, but it was not his CNA skills that we were impressed with, but his heart, compassion, laughter and dignity he gave not to just my mom, but to all around him. The whole floor was fabulous. “I feel we get caught up with the “parts and diseases” and often forget that there is a person here. Love and compassion is the best medicine and Jerry was the example of that!

“Mom came for this surgery from Indiana. I am thankful she made
that choice. My mom can leave here three days post-op with less pain and some restoration of faith in our healthcare system.”

Laci Crass

by radiology department leadership and The BEE Award committee.

Laci is an imaging technologist in the radiology department. She was nominated for assisting her co-workers during a difficult situation. “I wanted to write a quick note to tell you how
fabulous I and everyone I’ve spoken to in the CT department think Laci is,” her co-worker wrote. “She stopped by yesterday to help us with a difficult patient she’d seen coming into CT as she was walking down the hall to X-ray. A lot of folks would have kept walking seeing the difficulty that was about to unfold. But not Laci. This is just one time of many she has helped us. I’m proud to call her a co-worker and friend, as I’m sure everyone in the department is.

“She always goes above and beyond and has a wonderful attitude no matter what the situation. Patients compliment her kindness and compassion, and she is someone I would want caring for my family. Parkwest is lucky to have her. P.S. We would love to have her in CT.”

All BEE Award winners are presented with a certificate, special BEE pin, flowers and a gift basket in recognition of this honor. To nominate an employee at Parkwest for The BEE Award visit TreatedWell.com/BEE.
