Dr. Justin McGoldrick Named Enterprise Vice President of Medical Affairs and Graduate Medical Education Officer of Covenant Health
Covenant Health is pleased to announce Justin McGoldrick, MD, as the enterprise vice president of medical affairs and graduate medical education officer. This position was newly created to support the expanded role of our new chief medical officer, to provide leadership to Covenant Health’s medical staff across our hospital enterprise and to oversee our increasing number of medical education programs and partnerships with other local entities. Dr. McGoldrick assumed his new role effective August 7.
Dr. McGoldrick is a physician executive with extensive experience in medical affairs, clinical operations, research and education. In direct collaboration with Covenant Health’s chief medical officer, Dr. McGoldrick will provide medical leadership to the health system and physicians in addition to fostering the growth of graduate medical education, physician leadership development and research opportunities across the Covenant Health enterprise.

With more than 20 years’ experience of strategic clinical and business acumen, Dr. McGoldrick’s leadership will directly affect the recruitment and retention of accruing talent and leadership to expand the healthcare community in East Tennessee.

He most recently worked for Bon Secours Mercy Health in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he served as chief clinical research and innovation officer, a new role that was established following the merger of Bon Secours and Mercy Health to facilitate value creation and collaboration through strategic partnerships, the creation of an ecosystem of innovation, direct and indirect investments in healthcare solutions, digital enablement and the creation of system clinical research capabilities. He previously served Mercy Health as medical informatics officer, chief medical officer of the Cincinnati region and acute care chief medical officer, and chief medical officer for research and innovation.
Additional experience includes service on the board of directors for multiple start-up and healthcare entities, graduate medical faculty appointments, consultancy and working as an attending physician with multiple medical staff roles at St. Mary’s Health system / Mercy Health Partners / Tennova Health in the Knoxville region and Team Health.
Dr. McGoldrick holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, and a Medical Doctor degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed his residency in emergency medicine at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
He is licensed to practice medicine in Tennessee and Ohio, and he is a former diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
