For the second year in a row, Covenant Health has been named to the Becker’s Healthcare 2019 list of “150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare.” The list highlights hospitals, health systems and healthcare companies that promote diversity within the workforce, employee engagement and professional growth.
According to Becker’s, the organizations on the list “offer benefits and opportunities for employees to build successful careers above and beyond the average healthcare provider or company; they encourage professional development and promote leadership from within. Many members of the list offer unique wellness and personal benefits to ensure employees strike a positive work/life balance.”
Becker’s also noted that the healthcare organizations named to the list offer competitive benefits packages, and many support volunteerism and organize community outreach activities.
“We are extremely pleased that Covenant Health is listed among the ‘150 Top Places to Work in Healthcare’ in the U.S.,” said Jim VanderSteeg, president and CEO. “As the largest employer in the Knoxville area, Covenant Health is committed to creating an outstanding environment where employees work together to put our patients first, strive for excellence in everything we do, and make Covenant Health the first and best choice for those we serve.
“The Becker’s recognition, which includes some of the most prestigious healthcare organizations in the country, is an affirmation that Covenant Health is a place where employees can achieve professional success and personal growth throughout their careers,” VanderSteeg said. “It’s an honor for Covenant Health to be included in the year’s Becker’s list of top healthcare workplaces for the second year.”
In addition to the attributes listed by Becker’s, Covenant Health was recognized for its comprehensive medical benefits package and for offering an Employee Assistance Program that provides employees and their families support for work-life balance, career planning and other personal concerns. Covenant Health also recently launched a student loan repayment assistance program to help employees pay off personal student loans more quickly.
The health system actively encourages employees’ career development through partnerships with area post-secondary schools, continuing education programs, and leadership development. A new emerging leaders program helps identify and prepare employees who are interested in becoming future healthcare leaders.
