Ritzy Thimble Guild Celebrates More Than 20 Years of Giving to Methodist’s Hospitality Houses

The Hospitality Houses of Methodist Medical Center are a refuge for thousands of visitors as they travel to the hospital for treatment.  The houses offer a welcoming, home-like atmosphere for their guests, often cancer patients and their families, who may need to stay at the houses for as long as three months while receiving chemotherapy or radiation treatments.

A Pattern of Giving

The Hospitality Houses are supported by the Methodist Medical Center Foundation, as well as through the generous donations and support from the community.  For more than 20 years, the Ritzy Thimble Quilters Guild has offered a unique kind of support to the cancer patients at the Hospitality Houses by providing handmade lap quilts.  While each quilt is different, they are all made in the same pattern of generosity and compassion.

Representatives from Methodist Medical Center were on hand to personally thank guild members during their annual meeting and donation of quilts. Earlier this month, Methodist leadership hosted the Ritzy Thimble Quilters Guild with dinner and gratitude as it held its annual meeting in the hospital’s Ridge Conference area.  The rooms were filled with color from the 20 beautifully crafted quilts on display, which were this year’s donation to Methodist’s Hospitality Houses.

Healing Thanks for Handmade Gifts

“Thank you to all of the quilters who have so generously donated these beautiful quilts,” said Taynia Thornton, coordinator of Methodist’s Volunteer Services and Hospitality Houses.  “These quilts mean so much to our patients and guests. They not only warm their bodies, but their hearts, as well, and that goes a long way in the healing process.”
