Labiaplasty
The labia minora are the skin structures that protect the entrance to the vagina. Sometimes women experience discomfort due to the length and symmetry of the labia and decide to correct aesthetic labial concerns. Discomfort may include:
- Irritation during physical activity and intercourse
- Appearance and fit of certain types of clothing and bathing suits
- Declined self confidence
Labiaplasty
This surgery is designed to reduce the length of the labia minora and/or to correct asymmetry. After lengthy discussions regarding the individual desires of the patient, the excess tissue is removed and the skin edge is meticulously sutured closed. The procedure typically takes about 1.5 hours to complete.
Reduction of Excess Prepuce
The prepuce is the skin that covers and surrounds the clitoris. Excess skin in this area can affect the appearance and fit of certain clothes and bathing suits. This surgery is typically performed at the same time as a labiaplasty if there is excess tissue involving this region. The removal of the excess skin involves an incision on either side of the clitoris but not directly over the clitoris. By removing extra tissue, the skin more naturally drapes over the clitoris.
Hymenoplasty
This is a surgical procedure to reconstruct the hymen. The hymenal ring, or hymen, can be injured during an accident, from usage of tampons or from vaginal penetration by consensual or non-consensual sex. The presence of an intact hymen can be extremely important for both social as well as psychological reasons.
